This should be the first choice for the beginners. The sea is quite calm and you can easily learn to surf here. You can plan from Oct – Mar for this location. This beach also has black sand.
The best beach of Kerela, Hand Down. This place is also recommended for the beginners. The beach is considered as one of the cleanest beach in India and so is the water. If you want to make the most out of your first experience, this is the place to be.
This small hippie cum spiritual town is also the favourite spot for the surfers. The wave are good around June – October for surfers. The stay is also pretty cheap on the beach cottages. So if you are looking for a cheaper expedition, target Gokarna.
This is situated in North Goa. More off an offbeat beach as compared to Baga stretch. The water is pretty calm and the waves rise upto 8ft to 10ft dring monsoon. So best time to visit would definitely be from early June to late August. Also this months are considered as off season in Goa so you will find cheap stays. P.S. no shacks will be present during this time
The town is one hour drive from the capital city of Chennai. Located on the sea shore of Arabian, the town is also considered as hippie town with many ancient architectures. They have proper surfing school which will give you some basic training on how to do surfing. Best place to learn surfing.

The place is about 1 hr drive from Udupi towards Murudeshwar. The water is fierce during monsoon and best time to visit would be from October – February.
